ACUP Begins in Two DaysApril 15, 2011
On Sunday, college and university in-plant managers from all over the U.S., Canada and even the U.K. will assemble in Dallas for the 46th annual Association of College and University Printers conference.
As Ray Chambers details in his latest blog entry, the group has traveled a long road to get to this point.
"ACUP has deep roots as an in-plant organization, dating back to 1964 when in-plant managers from 25 colleges and universities met at Harvard University and agreed on the need for a forum to share ideas," Chambers writes. He then details how, after the economy soured and colleges and universities cut travel and training funds, the 2009 conference was cancelled and the association almost disappeared.
But instead, members pulled together and ACUP incorporated. The conference next week will be ACUP's first as a formal 501(c) (6) organization. So far more than 85 managers have signed up, and all are now ACUP members.
The theme for ACUP 2011 will be “A Future for Growth: Innovate, Collaborate, Educate.” Sessions will cover topics like new media tools, social networking as a marketing strategy, QR codes, sustainability development and more. IPG Editor Bob Neubauer will moderate and give a presentation at a session on value-added services. One of the keynote speakers will be Howie Fenton, of NAPL.
