New Creaser Brings New Capabilities To Bucknell University

When Bucknell University’s Office of Publications, Print and Mail decided it was time to replace its 17-year-old Rosback perforator/creaser, the Lewisburg, Pa., in-plant didn’t just want another version of the same machine. It wanted new capabilities so it could offer new value to the university.

So when Print Production Team Leader Dean Fisher learned that the Graphic Whizard CreaseMaster Platinum could do a box perf in one pass, he saw possibilities. The in-plant had been asked to do box perfs in the past (no small task at the time), so he knew this was a capability the in-plant could sell to customers who wanted a tear-off, mail-back panel on their newsletters or fund-raising solicitations.

The CreaseMaster Platinum was installed in the spring, and Fisher has been very pleased with it, particularly with the quality of its score. Instead of using a wheel to crease, a bar slaps down to impact the sheets.

“The impact crease is far superior to anything we’ve had here in this shop, even over the Tri-Creaser—and I always swore by the Tri-Creaser,” he testifies.

He also likes the machine’s speed; it can handle 8,000 (81⁄2x11˝) sheets an hour. Also, crease positions can be shifted on the fly.

“Changeover is definitely easier on this machine,” he adds.

The conveyor delivery makes feeding and unloading much smoother as well.

Fisher notes that the in-plant recently used the Crease-Master’s slit wheel to create a table tent.

“We used to buy the pre-scored and slit table tent material...and we’d run it through our copier,” he says. “This time we achieved it by just printing it on our own stock and putting our own scores and slits in it. We weren’t locked into their sizes.”
