GPO Hosts Debut Digital Printing In Government And Higher-Ed Conference

Approximately 90 in-plant managers packed into a room in the Government Publishing Office yesterday for a one-day educational conference, organized by In-plant Graphics. Attendance at the first Digital Printing in Government & Higher-Ed Conference far exceeded expectations, with attendees flying in from California, Illinois, Tennessee and even Canada.

IPG Editor Bob Neubauer welcomed the enthusiastic crowd to the Government Publishing Office and chaired the conference, which featured an impressive agenda of speakers:

Howie Fenton, of InfoTrends, gave the opening keynote in which he discussed trends impacting government and higher-ed in-plants. He also offered the concluding session of the day, talking about how in-plants can use technology to boost productivity.
Two state printers—Mike Lincoln of Colorado and Jerry Hill of California—highlighted innovations at their large print operations, including the addition of production inkjet printing at the state of Colorado's in-plant.
Dave Leonard and Les Barker of the World Bank Group’s Printing & Multimedia Services operation described how their in-plant used its Web-to-print system to acquire new business, increase efficiency and suggest related products to customers.
GPO’s Sandra MacAfee explained how GPO’s procurement practices go beyond just picking the lowest price. Instead, the agency analyzes quality, expertise and past performance to ensure that taxpayers receive the best value.
Neubauer discussed trends and best practices at government and higher-ed in-plants and highlighted new services in-plants are offering.
