With sales of $16.6 million, University of Oklahoma Printing, Mailing & Document Services is the largest university in-plant in the country. Staying on top means marketing the shop's services in as many ways as possible.
Just over a week ago, the 77-employee in-plant released a new video documenting the production of a postcard introducing the new dean of Arts & Sciences to alumni and potential donors. Set to music, the video covers the entire process, from design to print, giving customers a taste of what the in-plant is capable of doing.
"We have marketed our services across various media platforms for years," says Assistant Director Sherri Isbell. "Utilizing video allows in-plants to project a powerful presence."
The in-plant utilized its own staff to produce the video. It was shot by the in-plant's graphic designer, Margarita Lopez-Lura, who also edited it together with Matt Cooper, IT specialist. In just a little over 90 seconds it shows the piece being designed by Brandy Akbaran and then printed three-up and coated on the Kodak NexPress. It's then trimmed on a cutting machine.
"We have great technology and talent at OU and are able to convey it in this video project," says Isbell. "We will continue to use video to tell our story about being a one-stop-shop from creation to fulfillment."
