PRINT 09 Wraps Up

September 25, 2009
After months of hype, the PRINT 09 trade show came to a close last week in Chicago. Attendance was noticeably down this year, particularly on the first three days of the six-day show. Perhaps the beautiful Chicago weekend weather lured many to delay their arrival. Or maybe it was the questionable wisdom of starting a trade show on a Friday. Whatever the reason, though, by Monday morning, attendees arrived with a vengeance, including scores of in-plants managers. Booths were packed and vendors were busy giving demos.

A few of the highlights seen by IPG:

• Avanti's new Direct Mail Management module

• EFI PrintSmith version 8.1 with new Digital StoreFront integration and tracking capability for FSC certification

• Epson Stylus Pro 7900 Proofing Edition featuring the 24-inch wide-format ink-jet printer

• Fujifilm Inca Onset S20 UV flatbed printer

• The six-unit Ryobi 756G XL type press from xpedx

• Presstek's DI-UV digital offset presses for UV printing

• The Xerox 1300 continuous feed printing system

• The HP Indigo W7200 digital press

• MGI’s Meteor DP20 digital press, which can print, laminate, crease and cut in one pass

• The Océ JetStream 1000 ink-jet web press

• The Océ VarioPrint 6000 Ultra Line high-volume toner digital perfecting system

• Riso’s ComColor 9050 cutsheet ink-jet printer

• The Pitney Bowes Envelope Messaging System, which integrates full color process envelope printing and scanning on a high speed inserter

• The InfoPrint Pro C900AFP digital color ink-jet cutsheet printer

• The Xanté Ilumina Digital Envelope Press+

• The 3696 Gathering Machine from Muller Martini

• Xerox showed a technology demonstration of the iGen4 220 Perfecting Press, which integrates two Xerox iGen4 110 engines into one tandem system
