University of Houston In-plant Wins Big

University of Houston Printing and Postal Services staff shows off some of the awards the in-plant won in the Printing Industries of the Gulf Coast’s Graphic Excellence Awards competition.

It’s nice to win awards for the quality of your printing, but even nicer when you beat commercial printers in the process. Out of the 14 entries submitted by University of Houston Printing and Postal Services in the Graphic Excellence Awards competition, sponsored by the Printing Industries of the Gulf Coast (PIGC), six were picked as Best in Category winners.

The 25-employee in-plant competed in division 2, which includes all printers with between 11 and 50 employees. There were 11 printers in this division, totaling 109 entries—about 45 percent of the total entries in the contest. University of Houston Printing and Postal Services won awards in the categories bookletsbrochures, holiday cards, fliers, invitations, letterhead and newsletters.

But then came another surprise for in-plant staff who attended the ceremony: The in-plant’s UH Houston News was announced as the winner of the Best In-plant Entry. The shop received a trophy for this accomplishment.

Bob has served as editor of In-plant Graphics since October of 1994. Prior to that he served for three years as managing editor of Printing Impressions, a commercial printing publication. Mr. Neubauer is very active in the U.S. in-plant industry. He attends all the major in-plant conferences and has visited more than 130 in-plant operations around the world. He has given presentations to numerous in-plant groups in the U.S., Canada and Australia, including the Association of College and University Printers and the In-plant Printing and Mailing Association. He also coordinates the annual In-Print contest, cosponsored by IPMA and In-plant Graphics.
