University of Houston In-plant Wins BigAugust 2013 By Bob Neubauer
It’s nice to win awards for the quality of your printing, but even nicer when you beat commercial printers in the process. Out of the 14 entries submitted by University of Houston Printing and Postal Services in the Graphic Excellence Awards competition, sponsored by the Printing Industries of the Gulf Coast (PIGC), six were picked as Best in Category winners.
The 25-employee in-plant competed in division 2, which includes all printers with between 11 and 50 employees. There were 11 printers in this division, totaling 109 entries—about 45 percent of the total entries in the contest. University of Houston Printing and Postal Services won awards in the categories booklets\brochures, holiday cards, fliers, invitations, letterhead and newsletters.
But then came another surprise for in-plant staff who attended the ceremony: The in-plant’s UH Houston News was announced as the winner of the Best In-plant Entry. The shop received a trophy for this accomplishment.
