New Distributor of Presstek Presses and CTP

Presstek Inc. has entered into an agreement with Graphic Innovators (Elk Grove, IL) for the distribution of Presstek DI digital offset presses and CTP systems in the United States, Mexico and Brazil. “Graphic Innovators has strong relationships with many larger commercial and packaging printers in the United States, Mexico and Brazil, all of which are important markets for us,” said Joe Demharter, Presstek’s vice president of sales.

Since overseeing the installation of a Presstek 34DI digital offset press last July, Al Goranson, manager of Imaging Services at the University of Colorado at Boulder, has achieved his goal of taking in more long-run, full-color work. “As our volume of four-color work continued to grow, especially in run lengths greater than 1,000, we needed something that could produce the work at a cheaper cost than our HP Indigo 3050 digital press,” recalls Goranson. “We had opportunities on longer runs that were just not economic to produce on the Indigo. That was why we chose the Presstek 34DI press.”

Villanova Moves Ahead

For nearly 60 years, Villanova University Graphic Services operated out of one of the most unique facilities in the industry: an old house. Once a residence and later a dormitory, the building had 12 rooms, eight of which housed the in-plant's equipment and offices. A two-color Presstek/ABDick 9982 press filled one room; in another sat a Presstek Vector TX52 computer-to-plate system, a Xerox DocuColor 5000AP and a Canon imagePROGRAF iPF8300 wide-format printer; the bindery and shipping departments were in the garage.

Printing Services at The University of Texas Pan American has installed a new Presstek 34DI digital offset press to address the demand for affordable four-color printing and to reduce the amount of print the university outsources. Located in Edinburg, Texas, about 10 miles north of the U.S./Mexico border, the University serves nearly 20,000 students with a faculty of about 800.

With Hurricane Sandy leaving vast areas without power for weeks, it's been difficult to get news about the fate of some New York City in-plants, but IPG just learned of another major casualty from the storm. The New York City Department of Health’s satellite print center in Brooklyn was completely flooded during the storm.
