The very last session at ACUP 2011 proved to be one of the best. Jimmy Friend, director of Printing and Distribution Solutions at the University of North Texas, took the stage and revealed that his award-winning in-plant once produced such low-quality work and had such bad service that nearly every customer he surveyed described its service as unacceptable. He then described the steps he took, over the past 15 years, to turn his in-plant completely around into the roll model it is today.
In-plant managers from around the country will gather in Charleston, S.C., June 5-9 for the In-Plant Printing and Mailing Association’s 52nd educational conference. The “Charting the Future” conference will feature educational sessions, networking opportunities and a vendor fair.
In just three months, the newly incorporated Association of College and University Printers (ACUP) will meet for the 46th time, in Dallas. Taking place April 17-21, ACUP will feature numerous educational sessions, a tour of the award-winning University of North Texas Printing Services facility and a vendor exhibit.
Market research and consulting firm INTERQUEST held its fifth annual Digital Printing Forum in Washington, D.C., in November, drawing more than 100 government and higher-education document professionals.
About 30 in-plant managers met in Auburn, Ala., in October for the 35th annual Southeastern University Printing and Digital Managers Conference (SUPDMC). It was hosted by Glenda Miley, manager of Auburn University's CopyCat operation, who put together an informative, interactive and fun agenda that kept all attendees involved.
