For the first time in its 49-year history, the Association of College and University Printers (ACUP) ventured into Minnesota last month, bringing 80 higher-ed in-plant managers together for four days of networking and education.

Bob has served as editor of In-plant Impressions since October of 1994. Prior to that he served for three years as managing editor of Printing Impressions, a commercial printing publication. Mr. Neubauer is very active in the U.S. in-plant industry. He attends all the major in-plant conferences and has visited more than 170 in-plant operations around the world. He has given presentations to numerous in-plant groups in the U.S., Canada and Australia, including the Association of College and University Printers and the In-plant Printing and Mailing Association. He also coordinates the annual In-Print contest, co-sponsored by IPMA and In-plant Impressions.
A chilly rain dampened the highway on the 90-minute bus drive to Mankato, Minn., Wednesday morning, as the third day of ACUP got underway. Attendees of the 48th annual Association of College and University Printers (ACUP) conference spent the morning touring Minnesota State University-Mankato's print and mail operations, overseen by ACUP host Doug Fenske. They saw his well-equipped offset and digital printing facility and spent time talking with operators.
The UK University Print Manager’s Group conference drew 55 delegates from all over the world to the Imperial Hotel in Torquay, Devonshire, in the south west coast of England. The program consisted of sessions by members.
Tony Seaman, director of Brand Creative Services at the University of Mississippi, has been elected to the position of president-elect for the In-Plant Printing and Mailing Association. He will become president of the IPMA in the spring of 2012.
The University Print Managers’ Group, a UK-based association of in-plant managers, gathered an international audience for its conference in June, including attendees from U.S. and Australian in-plant associations. Jennifer Bowers, president of the U.S.-based Association of College and University Printers (ACUP), along with David Harrison and Martin Booth from the Network of In-house Print Professionals Australasia (NIPPA, www.nippa.com.au), joined 65 attendees from in-plants all over the UK for the three-day affair, which took place in Bournemouth, on the south coast of England. The UK University Print Managers Group met for its 10th annual conference recently near Manchester, England, drawing 55 attendees from Scotland, Northern Ireland, England, Wales and the Republic of Ireland. Similar to ACUP, the conference featured sessions on staff development, marketing, remaining competitive, sustainable procurement, working for the environment, working with Marketing and more. There was also a problem-solving workshop along with discussions of online services and digital printing strategies. Next year’s event will take place June 1-4 in Bournemouth, England.
