The 19 Largest Government In-plants
We have finished collecting the data for our annual ranking of the largest in-plants. As we prepare the lists for our December issue, we've decided to reveal some of the data a little early. Here are the 19 largest government in-plants, ranked by employees and then by sales.
This year's ranking by employees looks pretty similar to our 2017 list, with the Government Publishing Office and the State of California at the top. The next seven in-plants are also in the same order as last year, but then the City of New York Police Department's in-plant rose in the ranks, while the City of Los Angeles' shop dropped a few spots.
On the ranking by annual sales, the State of Wisconsin jumped higher in the ranks, chiefly due to lower reported revenues from the states of Colorado and Montana. Overall, most operations reported lower revenues than in 2017, with only the states of California, Oregon and New Mexico and the City & County of San Francisco showing sales increases over last year.
