IPG Visits New Canon HeadquartersAugust 9, 2013
The impressive new 700,000 square-foot facility, about 35 miles east of Manhattan, joins London and Tokyo as one of Canon's three worldwide headquarters locations. It consolidates Canon's multiple locations in Lake Success, N.Y., onto a sprawling 52-acre site that includes walking trails, ponds and eight acres of preserved, open land. The five-story facility hosts several environmentally conscious elements including daylight harvesting, drought resistant vegetation and electric vehicle charging stations.
"We designed this building so it's something we could be proud of," remarked Seymour Liebman, executive vice president, chief administrative officer and general counsel of Canon U.S.A.
Visiting editors and analysts toured the new showroom, which features Canon products from the many industries Canon serves, including health care, security and the motion picture industry. On display were samples of Canon cameras through the years. A mixed reality demonstration allowed a volunteer to use a viewer to inspect a car that wasn't physically present. Canon production printers like the imagePRESS C7010VPS were also on hand, along with wide-format printers like the IPF 8300S.
Canon is focused on gaining more of the $1.8 billion North American large-format market, remarked Mal Baboyian, executive vice president of the Large Format Solutions and Production Printing Solutions units. During yesterday's meeting, he announced the 42˝ Océ ColorWave 900, to be officially introduced at PRINT 13. It offers production print speeds of 12˝ per second (12,000 square feet per hour), resolutions of 1,600x1,600 dpi, instant drying and a dual tray, high-capacity stacker, for concurrent printing and unloading.
"The machine never stops, even when you're unloading work," remarked Baboyian.
Journalists also learned of several other impressive new products, under non disclosure agreements, that will be demonstrated at PRINT 13.
