Iowa State University Achieves Dual Certification

Iowa State University Printing & Copy Services has earned chain-of-custody certification from both the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI). The achievement comes just as long-time Director Gary Boyd prepares to retire on September 1. He has overseen ISU's in-plant since the 1980s.
"We felt that duel certification provided our customers the best options and availability of papers," says Boyd. "In addition, we partnered with our Central Stores operation for certification because they supply the copy paper that we use in our high-speed copiers and across campus. That paper comes from a competitively bid multi-year contract that is handled by Central Stores."
The in-plant was certified by Scientific Certification Systems. It is now able to provide FSC- or SFI-certified printed products that meet strict tracking requirements, ensuring that the paper used in printed materials comes from responsibly managed forests. Boyd says that 80 percent of paper used by Printing & Copy Services is either FSC or SFI certified.
