MANY COMPONENTS

Of course, a proofing system is more than just a printer or a monitor. A proofing system consists of components that work together to produce optimum results. The components of a proofing system would include a printer, inks, proofing media, a computer, software for control, a measurement instrument and the system operator.

“The failure of any component will cause a bad result,” says Summers, adding: “The improvement of any one component doesn’t necessarily improve the result.”

Increasingly, the proofing process is becoming virtual. Documents are often created, edited, adjusted and approved with confidence by printers and print buyers alike based on the development of workflow tools, color standards and file formats that enable extremely fast cycle times.
